Every December for the past several years, sailing superyachts and power megayachts enjoying Asia’s waters have indulged in the Kata Rocks Superyacht Rendezvous. The event shines the spotlight on Thailand’s Phuket, the culture of the Thai people, and what the region has to offer on land and by sea.

From December 6 to 9, owners, their guests, and their yachts descended on the Kata Rocks resort for the festivities. A slew of social activities awaited, from experiencing complimentary spa treatments at the resort to seeing a showcase of the latest watertoys. Beach barbeques, an owners’ dinner, champagne tasting and more delighted attendees, too. Captains received their own special dinner as well, of course.

All the while, yachting-industry sponsors had the chance for more relaxed, one-on-one conversations with their best clients as well as prospects. Royal Huisman, for instance, surprised many in the crowd in announcing plans to build multi-hull superyachts, both power and sail. Multi-hulls are a first for the Dutch yard, which is collaborating with Berret-Racoupeau Design on the variety of projects.

Sustainability was also big part of the Kata Rocks Superyacht Rendezvous. The International SeaKeepers Society helped to raise awareness of the importance of ocean protection, restoration, and conservation. It has an active group of members in Asia, too. Plus, Torqeedo showed off all-electric and solar-powered RIBs and tenders.

Then, of course, megayachts dotted the waters. The Kata Rocks Superyacht Rendezvous attracted the likes of Aphrodite, Xanadu, Nymhaea, and more.

If this whets your appetite, mark your calendar for the next edition of the Rendezvous. It’s just 11 months away, from December 12 to 15. And, it’s poised to keep reigning as Asia’s premier superyacht event.
