INTRODUCING THE NEW HH44

YACHTING EVOLVED.

Is there such a thing as “the perfect cruising boat?” What features would it have? How big would it be? How environmentally friendly could you build it? Could it be 100% electric and have unlimited range? These were the types of questions that HH Catamarans asked when they began development on the all new HH44 cruising catamaran, and what they arrived at might surprise you.

First and foremost, the highly experienced team at HH wanted to build their most affordable boat yet. One that maybe, just maybe, mere mortals could afford. For this reason it was designed with cruising couples and families in mind, and loaded with standard features not traditionally found on boats this size.

The most impressive feature, which comes standard, is the boat’s parallel hybrid “EcoDrive.” This was developed from the ground up to provide all the benefits of an electric boat (silent, fume free motoring, instant torque for maneuvering, and hydro-regeneration while sailing) yet paired with the redundancy and reliability of a diesel engines, which can be used as generators or for propulsion when absolutely necessary. When combined with the boat’s impressive standard 3.2kW of solar panels and shaft driven, regenerative folding propellers, the factory estimates an essentially infinite range without the need for fossil fuels given the right conditions.

In another first, the HH44 comes standard with dual-swing helms and folding transoms. The yard recognized that by completely enclosing the aft cockpit, the boat is not only more protected from waves, but it also becomes safer for children and pets. At anchor, the transoms fold down to extend the boat by a further 4 feet, so really the HH44 is comparable to 48 footers in terms of living space. The swing helms further improve interior living while also improving the sailing experience. You can steer from within the protected cockpit, or swing the helms out for a full view of your telltales when racing, and improved visibility when docking on either side.

As with all HH Catamarans, the sailing performance is spectacular. The carbon fiber, e-glass and epoxy composite construction, carbon mast, longeron/crossbeam, and 16.4 foot (5m) long pre-preg carbon daggerboards (designed by renowned naval architects Morrelli & Melvin) mean this boat will be capable of exceeding wind speeds. Future owners will enjoy sailing in light air when others are motoring, and feel confident that the boat is engineered to withstand the conditions when the weather becomes more severe. All sail controls are managed from the aft helm stations and the lines are neatly concealed below decks for a safe and uncluttered walkway forward. Even the traveler is moved to the carbon reinforced cabin top, keeping all lines and rigging tidy and crew members safe.

Another point of difference is the attention that HH Catamarans has given to the environmental impact. They are the only boat manufacturer in the world that has voluntarily committed to a higher-level of carbon emissions improvement than any North American or European country is required to match (as part of the Paris Climate Accord). And in 2015, they initiated an Environmental Policy to reduce wastewater, eliminate all pollution from the factory, trap and wash all the air in their production bays, and even dedicate 10% of their land to a working garden. Furthermore, due to the incredibly strong nature of carbon and epoxy, which makes for a nearly indestructible boat, the life expectancy of HH cats is 50 years minimum, which is about 2-3 times the lifecycle expectation of most polyester boats. Never before has a boat builder gone through more effort (and cost) to positively alter their environmental impact.

VISIT HH44

Inside the boat features a good use of space with a U-shaped galley, forward facing nav table and interior table and settee that converts into a daybed. The forward and aft windows, which are thermally tempered glass, hinge open for impressive airflow. As with all HH Catamarans, the interior materials and upholstery are of super-yacht quality with 5” foam cushions, upscale woods and marine grade fabrics. Six inch luxury spring mattresses in the three cabins come standard. Options include innovative LED lighting, 50,000 BTUs of air conditioning, clothes washer/dryer, dive tank and compressor compartment and many other features that allow you to build your dream boat.

Maybe, just maybe, there is a perfect boat after all?
